The Federal Government has been urged to urgently address the concerns raised by the National Union of Electricity Employees NUEE.
The Chairman of the Abuja Broadcast Station Managers, Mrs Fatima Abbas Hassan made the call at an emergency meeting of the association on Thursday, expressed displeasure over the untold hardship the strike actions embarked on by the power sector workers has caused Nigerians within the last 24hours.
She said; “There is need for a joint meeting to resolve pending issues between the workers, TCN, Gencos, Discos and all stakeholders involved towards finding a lasting solution to the problems bedevilling the power sector”.
She noted that the power sector which is a critical sector to social and economic development of the nation needs to be given appropriate attention it deserves rather than just paying lip service to this critical sector.
Recall that the National Union of Electricity Employees NUEE had earlier commenced industrial action on Wednesday 11th after a 21-day ultimatum issued to the Minister of Power Saleh Mamman which was later suspended.
The aggrieved workers commenced strike action across the country disrupting public power supply leading to a nationwide blackout on Wednesday due to government not responding to the demands of the electricity workers which includes non-payment of severance package to retrenched workers since 2013, non-payment of salary arrears to NUEE members, illegal’ transfer of union proprietors to investors
