Covid-19: Stakeholders task FG on timely, full release of health budget

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to ensure the timely release of the budgetory allocations to health in full irrespective of dwindling oil prices due to coronavirus
The chairman, National Advocates for Health, NAH, Professor Oladapo Ladipo, made this known in a statement in Abuja
Professor Ladipo said the federal government needs to be committed to providing total allocation made for basic health provision fund, BHCPF, of N44.50 billion and N46 Billion allocated for the Health Capital Budget. That the importance of the health capital budget has a significant component for immunization, including N1.5 billion for Expanded Midwives Service Scheme, N729million for Cancer Funds and N1.2billion for Family Planning Procurement which is an international commitment to FP2020.
The NAH believes that if there is no short fall in the release health and wellbeing of children women and children will be better off in 2020
According to the health stakeholders “we are aware that implementation of the overall 2020 budget may suffer cuts and delay in disbursement as Coronavirus continues to impact on the global oil market which Nigerian government substantially relies on to finance its budget” stressing the need for the federal government to treat health as a political agenda and sustain its funding in the midst of crash in global oil revenues occassioned by Coronavirus pandemic
Nevertheless, Professor. Ladipo commended the federal government’s speedy response to the Coronavirus pandemic
